Marie Well

I’m Marie Well, as in healthy well. At least, that’s my aim—to get well and make you well. We all have woes, from breakups to cancer to hoarder houses. I’m here to fix those woes—with tips mixed with my own tales.

Why read me? I’ve got a track record of fixin’ stuff. I’ve cured myself of anxiety. For a decade, I had anxiety attacks that struck almost daily. When not stricken, I’d write Voice articles, mostly on how to combat stress.

And then my world changed. One week went by with no attacks. A month. A year. Two years. And counting.

Now, I want to skyrocket our health—and bolster our creativity. After all, nothing soothes better than strokes of paint or tones of music or reps in a gym.

So, let’s get fit, creative, and well with Marie Well.

The Fit Student—What to do When you hit Rock Bottom

Today was my birthday, and my sister, who phones me once a year, never phoned.  Instead my beloved niece wished me a happy birthday from my sister via Facebook text message.  I felt like crying. I messaged my niece that every human has a low point in life.  When we hit our low, which we… Read more »

Study Dude—If Lonely at AU, Woo Yourself a Pal

“If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re very scarce.  If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere” (Zig Ziglar as cited in K. D.). At AU, you might miss the friendships found at physical universities.  You might even feel isolated or lonely.  “Friendships are important—if not… Read more »

The Fit Student—Laugh Your Way to a Perfect GPA

A happy brain could make you a superstar student.  One Harvard study showed that “happiness is positively associated with GPA for students in grades 4-12.”  Another study “revealed a significant correlation between happiness and academic success.”  So, if happiness boosts GPA, why waste time being sad? In the undergrad, depression dipped my grades.  Due to… Read more »

Study Dude—Four Ways to Wash Away School Worries

Studies can lead to stress.  So, as students, our brains might chatter nonstop.  We might second guess ourselves.   We might toss and turn rather than drift into lullaby land.  We might complain of headaches, sore muscles, and tiredness.  We might even mingle with mental illness—after all, anxiety and depression can stem from negative thoughts, overthinking,… Read more »

The Fit Student—Could Breast Implants Cause Disease?

“Many thousands of women were told that breast implants were safe and ‘would last a lifetime’” (Kolb, location 147 of 3363, 4%). As students, you likely don’t carry much cash.  Some broke AU femmes might ponder working part-time at pubs.  And some of these women may opt for breast implants.  But I urge you—do neither. … Read more »

The Fit Student—Get Rich and Famous with Fitness

Imagine you weigh over 180 pounds as a five-foot four-inch femme.  And earlier that day, you’ve been featured live on local news.  And now, you’re about to watch, for the first time, the replay.  As the camera opens to the sight of you, you coil back in horror.  You look fatter than Momma June before… Read more »

The Study Dude—Study at AU and Quickly Become a Pilot?

Not sure where to go with your career?  Why not get AU accreditation and then study to become a pilot?  A degree in management and teaching seems compatible with piloting as do degrees in French, politics—or nursing.  After all, what deathly ill soul doesn’t cry out for a doctor onboard a flight? But what do… Read more »
