Karl Low

Born and (mostly) raised in Calgary, Karl has been taking courses on and off at AU since 1999. At one point, he changed his major from Computing Science to Computing Science because the new program requirements fit what he’d already taken better. Since then, he switched to English and graduated (w/Great Distinction he likes to add) proving along the way that it is entirely possible to complete an entire AU course within a three week period. If only he had done this at the beginning of the course instead of in the last extension.

This is not something he advises unless you are desperate, masochistic, or, ideally, both.

He is currently the managing editor of The Voice Magazine, where he tries to put his education to use helping other students as they provide content for The Voice

Editorial—Officially Old

Athabasca University students, as an average, have been getting younger over the years, but we’re still have one of the oldest, if not the very oldest, student body of universities across the nation.  So many of you might have some experience with what’s gone on with me recently. I officially had to confront my mortality… Read more »

Council Connection—March 17, 2021 Meeting

At 6:30 pm, AUSU Council gathered with its new executive having just been elected.  The more things change, the more they stay the same, as the saying goes.  In this case, all three executives from last month were re-elected into the same positions, but an extra executive position had been created and a councillor elected. … Read more »

Editorial—Judging Underway

So, as mentioned in the rules for the Voice Writing contest, the entries were gone through and adjusted to standard margin sizes, removing identifying information, removing pictures, and sent off to the judges.  With close to 50 entries total, the judges have their work cut out for them.  But all that formatting work means I… Read more »

Editorial—Contest Closing

If you’re reading this on Friday, March 19th, there’s still a few hours to get your entry in for the Voice Writing contest.  We’ve got a good number of entries for the fiction category, and a few for the non-fiction category, so the next step is for me to remove all identifying information from the… Read more »
